He returns home and finds a friend in a most unlikely place–a stall. Stryder isn’t the love of his life. No, he’s an ornery, determined thoroughbred who thinks he turns Ian’s world.
Now, what you don’t find out in book 1 is that they are Scots who settled in Tennessee before the Revolutionary war, and still follow clan law.
Now, the Downs and Graysons are special. Matilda was mama to most, and she has a slew of sons, all with that smooth warm brown skin and strange blue eyes.
See, Matilda was the Miann Cridhe for two men, not just one. And what is Miann Cridhe? Well, it’s heart’s desire.
And you’ll notice, some of these last names would sound better with Mac in front, but well, you can only have the Mac if you’re in charge of that family.

How they connect:
A long time ago, Bram Bentley Hinden, Mac for the Hinden bloodline, fell in love with Forrest Graeme, Chief of the Clans.
In Swanton, marriages are bloodline alliances, all centered around the best horseflesh.
When the Mac Council chose Forrest’s wife, she did not understand Miann Cridhe and caught Bram and Forrest together.
The Macs wanted to kill Bram, but to save him, Forrest did the only thing he could to save him.
Stripped of his family name, Bram left Swanton Tennessee, for Virginia, taking his rights to his family’s diamond mine with him.
Bram settled on a plot of land, spending the next two years building Fox Estate, and changing the Hinden Family crest into one that represented his fight for survival, and his legacy.
Forrest, however, couldn’t stay away. Two lonely years without the man he loved, drew him to Bram, one rainy night in June.
They spent two weeks together burning down their past, under the guise of business, and the Barnett name was born.
People began coming to Bram’s patch of land from New York when the Ponzi schemes and railroads broke them.
Bram sold them each a plot of land, and when the people wanted to incorporate, the town became Bentley.
One such family, the Lawrences, also moved in, and were hell-bent on being the leaders of Bentley, but everyone trusted Bram.
As the saying goes: The Lawrences are richer than God, but the Barnetts are richer than that.
Bram discovered there were many men like him-abandoned by family for one reason or another, and most, like him were gay.
The men were broke, and couldn’t recoup losses. One such man owned a winery in Virginia, and needed to sell.
The land was good, the grapes were amazing, and the wine was exquisite.
Bram purchased it, and selected a few men to give a percentage of the profit to. It was a loan, the repaid from the profit received from the wine.
The Lawrences, however, were not included.
Forrest Graeme, Chief of the Clans in Swanton Tennessee, was.
The two weeks Bram and Forrest spent together became the designated anniversary every year for the shareholders to gather, and it was called the Cufflinks Club.
The Lawrences were furious because they were never invited, and created a game called Killers Keepers.
Bram and later, his sone Harold, devised a plan to remove the killers from the table, and each wrong face to arrive for the two-week meeting, now has a plot in the back garden with a rosebush above them.
Harold’s son, Leo, ended up in a mess with Barty Lawrence, that has tied his grandson, Weston, into a knot, that the Graemes, the Downs, and the Graysons have come to unravel.
The Clans will always protect their own.
After all, Weston Bentley Barnett–the Bentley–is Campton Hinden’s son.
